Trimming
For the first couple of years following planting, new hedges need formative trimming to ensure that they grow properly. In most cases, formative pruning is carried out in the winter or early spring. Following that, maintenance pruning is carried out, which is normally once a year for informal hedges and twice a year for formal hedges, depending on the kind of hedge.
